There is real Mexican food in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
First of all I am a little biased toward small town mom and pop operations/small businesses that are working to scratch out a living. They don't always have the newest buildings or furnishings of the big city chain operations. But, if they can put a good meal on the table with reasonably attentive and courteous service then count me in!
Lindo Veracruz did just that. They put a good meal on the table with reasonably attentive and courteous service.
You will get a little chuckle when you see their hand painted "Mexican Restaurant" sign with the arrow pointing across the street to the restaurant. The outside of the restaurant looks a little rough. It is clean inside. The owner had all of the lights and ceiling fans turned off, I guess to save energy. Nothing is wrong with trying to save energy. There was plenty of light coming through the windows (that desperately needed washing). They had a couple of box fans running to keep the air moving and keep the restaurant at a comfortable temperature.
The food was good! Starting with the salsa, it had a nice amount of heat and the flavors were good. My wife had the chicken enchiladas. The chicken in the enchiladas was seasoned and covered with a spicy green sauce. It had great flavors with a little heat. It came with beans and rice.
I had the carne asada. It came with grilled onion slices, beans and rice. I ordered a chili toreado to go with it. When the lady set the plate on the table it came with a table knife, as opposed to a steak knife to cut the steak. I was thinking this is going to be a challenge. But, it wasn't. The steak was a very thin cut of beef (probably sirloin) cut across the grain. It was easy to cut with the table knife. It was a good average carne asada. I enjoyed it. -

The service was great. The quality of the food and portion size was good. I need more flavor though. Everything tasted very bland, even the picante sauce and chips. I kept adding salt, to everything! And I VERY seldom add salt to anything but potatoes. I had the tamales, rice and refried beans.
